Our Lodge & Accommodations
The Amazon Expeditions lodge is called "Palo Verde Lodge" (Green Branch Lodge). The name "Palo Verde" comes from the Capirona Tree who's trunk and branches are smooth and are a rich, dark green color. Capirona's grow throughout the area of the Yanayacu River where our lodge is located and all around the lodge itself.
The Yanayacu River, a small tributary of the Amazon River, is approximately 50 miles (110Km) south of Iquitos, Perú, the largest city in the Perúvian jungle. Our eco-lodge consists of ten interconnected bungalows, a dining room, a lounge area and the kitchen.
Environmental Responsibility
The rain forests of South America are disappearing and, as an environmentally friendly and responsible adventure company, we are committed to helping conserve and protect the natural resources of the area. More than 40% of our lodge, bungalows and buildings are built from repurposed wood and renewable resources from the forest such as palm thatch and other material. Adding to the ambiance and authenticity of the jungle experience, our lodge does not have electricity. The facility and bungalows are illuminated at night by the soft glow of oil lamps.
Amazon Expeditions does have a generator that runs during part of the day to provide refrigeration for perishables and to charge batteries. We do not offer electricity all day in order to preserve the tranquility and ambience of the rain forest.
